Water Resources Management and Hydraulic Engineering

Comprehensive solutions in hydrology, hydrogeology and hydraulic infrastructure design for water control and optimisation

Our Approach

We deliver specialised engineering in hydrology, hydrogeology and hydraulic design to ensure the efficient management and control of water resources. Using numerical models and fluid simulation, we design protective infrastructure that shields projects from extreme weather events and ensures strict compliance with environmental regulations.

Areas of Work

  • Dam Breach Analysis through the rheological characterisation of the tailings to determine their yield stress and viscosity, assessment of Sunny Day and Rainy Day scenarios, failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), estimation of mobilised volumes with the development of outflow hydrographs, inundation maps detailing depth, velocity, concentration and risk, and sensitivity analysis using probabilistic methods with specialised software such as Flow3D, Post-Flow Science and Flo2D.
  • Water dam engineering covering all project stages from conceptual design, pre-feasibility, feasibility and detailed design, through to the design of lining systems and the preparation of operation and closure manuals.
  • Hydrology and resource management studies focused on climatology, climate change, water use, catchment water balance, and the processing and management of water use permits with regulatory authorities.
  • Hydraulic design of major infrastructure for conveyance and regulation works, river defence projects, complex pumping systems, pipelines and specialised drainage systems for roads and access routes.
  • Operational water management systems designed specifically for the separation and control of contact and non-contact water in mining operations, including sediment management works and effluent treatment systems.
  • Advanced hydraulic simulation and modelling to accurately predict river and stream flow and sediment transport, as well as the dynamics of mud and debris flows.
  • Predictive whole-of-mine water balance simulation, optimising water behaviour in leach pads and tailings storage facilities under a range of operating scenarios.
  • Highly complex special hydrological studies, including the determination of environmental flows, risk analysis of hydraulic works, hydrogeological studies and the development of inter-basin transfer projects.
